T61 dvd writer making noise like floppy disk drive

#1 Post by hwangong » Fri Sep 07, 2007 11:14 am

I have had T61 for a month.
and this machine has so many minor problems so far.
I'm very disappointed for what i paid.

anyway the problem is
dvd-writer(ultrabay? whatever the system came with) makes really annoying noise whenever i open and close it no matter if a disk is in or not.
the noise is very similar or almost same as that from FDD back in the days.
this is really annoying and i never saw any cd or dvd drive making that noise. has anyone heard?

what would be the problem with it?

Also the hard drive noise is quite loud.
I have 100gb 7200 rpm one.

well with a 7200RPM drive you get more noise becuase of more friction and more vibration.

As for the drive, would that be as a result of the laser head moving back and forth to check if there's a disc in the drive whenever you close it? Does it happen all the time or just whenever you close the drive (or open it where it goes back to it's default position)

Not sure what kind of noise it is, but I think there is an option in the BIOS that allows you to adjust the noise level of the optical drive.

No, in the powermanager.

2nd tab, advanced (correct me if I am wrong)

You can choose:

High performance, Normal, Silent
W520
T61

Sir, you can call IBM at 1-800-426-7378 (24/7)! and request a replacement.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
