T61P 15.4" WSXGA+ Screen Quality Issues?
Im thinking of upgrading my 2 week old T61 to the T61p since I do like to game on my laptop and the 570M GPU seems to be good enough for my needs. Has anyone recieved their new T61p's with the 15.4"WSXGA+ screens yet and how is the quality i.e brightness level and what screen did they recieve (LG or Sammy). Thanks.
IBM Thinkpad R51 with Pentium M 1.7, 1.25 GB RAM, 15" SXGA+ FlexView, 32MB ATI, 80GB 7K100 HDD, 1394 firewire, Cost? Priceless.
I just received a T61p with 15.4" WSXGA+ LCD yesterday. It looks good to me. Never had a problem with my T60p 14.1" SXGA+ screen either though so I may not be as particular as some. I think my T61p LCD is an LG display. Played Oblivion on it last night for a couple of hours. Plays better than on the T60p. Had to turn down some stuff on the T60p. Everything turned up on the T61p.
I did have to download a DX9 related DLL for it. Not sure if thats because I have Vista 64 or not but was easy enough to search on the error I got and find the file to download.

Thank you mods for cleaning up the thread. Also thanks to the above members for their feedback regarding their screens. Im glad you find them great so hopefully I wont have any issues.
The 140M is a pretty nice gpu and really surprised me while playing Bioshock as I wasn't expecting such decent performance, so that got me thinking about the T61P which has a much faster GPU and it wouldn't cost me that much to upgrade. Man, my 3 year old custom built desktop gaming rig couldn't play Oblivion with all the settings on max without crashing due to heat issues. LOL

Post screenshots of the WSXGA+ and the SXGA+ with a black background/screensaver. Directly, and at an angle.
I have a hypothesis that the 15.4" WSXGA+ screens are much better than the 14" SXGA+ screens.

The 15.4" WSXGA+ screen on the T61P is gorgeous. Obviously its not a Dell, or Apple reflective display, but neither does it have the huge glare problems those have. As far as antiglare laptop screens goes, its one of the best I've seen. Its not an IPS screen, but its brighter, with a faster response time.
Not too useful I'm afraid:ryengineer wrote:Parts Lookupkenyee wrote:any idea how you can tell which screen (LG or Samsung) you have?
42T0422 42T0423 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES
FWIW, the screen looks very nice.
The 15" T61p is a lot bigger than I expected though...just looks big because of all the extra space around the screen and keyboard.
And it does get pretty hot where the GPU is, so it's quite the knee heater...
a quick google search says that it should be an LG/philips LP154W02-TL06.kenyee wrote:Not too useful I'm afraid:

pcwizard 2007 should confirm this.
ThinkStation P700 · C20 | ThinkPad P40 · 600
Thanks, Erik.

Yesterday received a T61p with 15.4" WSXGA+ LCD - LG lcd.
Very bright have to turn down, viewing angles fine with me,
matte screen clear and can see verywell outside. Haven't run a pixel test yet but can not notice anything - so fine. I sit in front of 2 cpu's all day so I like a good screen.
" Have to say I procrastenated for well over 3 months getting my 1st Thinkpad. With all the stuff on various boards about quality build, lcd screens, shipping and etc. I did not want to spend the $ but did not want to go back to Dell or HP." One item - they don't turn on clear type fonts as a default and that makes the type lack
clarity.
Purchased on the Laborday sale and received in a week.
So far it's a quality product and was nervous for no reason.
