Battery meter stuck at 4%

#1 Post by spiike » Sat Sep 08, 2007 12:21 am

After I rolled the system back to factory settings, I noticed the battery monitor is stuck at 4%. Even when plugged in for the whole night it is still at 4%. Does anyone know how to fix this? My laptop is out of warranty as of 5 days ago, so calling lenovo is out. Hopefully it's not a hardware issue.

if you plan on keeping the T60p then i'd call lenovo and see if they'll extend your warranty.   i believe it's about $99 for one year and $169 for two years of extension.

the battery only carries one year of warranty regardless of your overall plan.   however, if something is wrong with your T60p and not the battery then you'll be glad you had a warranty.

also make sure your battery isn't part of the recall.   if it is then it'll be replaced regardless of warranty.   check this thread for more info.

lastly, try removing and reinstalling the battery.   that worked to fix a friend's T60 battery until we discovered it was recalled anyway.

Also, try reinstalling the latest Power Manager and driver.

Very strange. I reinstalled those and nothing worked. But now, when I have the battery in, about 5 mins after reboot the computer freezes. Windows start up freezes too. The only way I'm typing this is by taking out the battery and going strictly by AC.

Do you guys think this is a battery problem or laptop problem?

Difficult to tell without doing a system restore. If after the system restore the problem persists it's most likely hardware. Could very well be a bad battery. If you are still in the first year of your warrantee I would call Lenovo first and ask them to replace the battery before doing anything else.
