New T6X model
New T6X model
Does anybody have any clue on the next season Thinkpad? I need to buy a new notebook and am waiting for the next Thinkpad breed, my hope is that above all features Lenovo would be paying attention to the screens.
anything new might be next year April or so when the new platform is out if it doesn't get delayed.
Screens might get better because of better manufacturing or something but not because of a huge drastic change. They'll probably keep finding the lowest bidder they can as usual. Thinkpads aren't known for their screens, ever.

I guess it is possible to see Penyrn running on Santa Rosa platform Thinkpad in April (Maybe Penyrn will be available to T61?), and then there will be the new T6x(if not T70) that equipped with the Montevina platform, maybe in July 2008?
T60 (2007-66U): upgraded to C2D T7400, 2GB DDR2-667, Hitachi Travelstar 5k250, 14" SXGA+, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (sold).
T61 (8891-CTO): C2D T7300, 4GB DDR2-667, Hitachi Travelstar 5k250, 14" SXGA+, Nvidia Quadro FX 570M (128MB).

To be fair, the 14" non-IPS screens are on par with other manufacturers. I have not seen one non-IPS screen look excellent (except maybe dell's WUXGA ones).
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU
Rules of the road

Using Penryn will require updating the chipset to the Santa Rosa refresh, and thus an updated motheboard, I wouldn't bet on that myself.dickeywang wrote:I guess it is possible to see Penyrn running on Santa Rosa platform Thinkpad in April (Maybe Penyrn will be available to T61?), and then there will be the new T6x(if not T70) that equipped with the Montevina platform, maybe in July 2008?
The Montevina chipsets will be available in Q2 next year, and based on that, I would expect to see the next generation of ThinkPads coming out sometime next summer, depending on what "Q2" really means at Intel.

Still, even tho there's a FlexView option and they aren't great they aren't uniquely known as one reason to get an IBM machine compared to any other (is what i meant).gator wrote:Ahem, flexview?SHoTTa35 wrote:Thinkpads aren't known for their screens, ever.

Default Non-IPS screens are good in my opinion as i have fake 14" IPS screen (yes i know it's a typo) and it's really nice

I don't think Lenovo is on par with other manufactures. What about the MacBook screen?gator wrote:Ahem, flexview?SHoTTa35 wrote:Thinkpads aren't known for their screens, ever.

in that case you have two options...rleo25 wrote:PS. The wait until next summer or even april seems toooo long to me...
1) buy something new now and upgrade later
2) be happy with what you have and upgrade later
no one knows exactly when the next major T series will be available for public consumption. if you need to upgrade now then upgrade now. if you can live with what you have for possibly another 1~1.5 years then wait and upgrade later. simple.

What do you want in an LCD? I am quite happy with my WSXGA+ screen. This T61p seems excellent at playing games.... my T60p was pretty good but I really like the T61p and the price is not bad either.

The only complaint I have with my T60 is the screen... it is so dim and has very poor brghtness, contrast and color saturation.... but I can live without a better one for a while. And yes I´ll take your advice... and will wait until the new year´s sales season, probably we will have the next T63 or T70 by that time. Sony, Dell and Fujitsu are bringing to the stores new models very often, and Intel announced a new super processor to be released soon... Lenovo should surprise us its loyal dye-hard customers with a new marvel...
According to new Intel's processors, plus the record of how IBM/Lenovo launches its offering, I believe there will be a minor option change on the top-of-the-line model.
For example, there should be T7800 processor and price drop on T7700 on T/R/X series, and L7700 as the top of X61s/X61t series.
One more point for the decoration, I think IBM has agreed Lenovo to use IBM's brand Logo on Thinkpad until 2008 only. So the models in 2008 might not convey any more of "IBM" logo in red/green/blue on its cover and palmrest any more.
