I live in South Africa where most of the cleaning agents (brand names) suggested in all the posts, are not available. I would like to get some simple cleaning tips.

Would I go wrong with a 50/50 mix of alcohol & water for the LCD and body of my T61p? Along with that a micro fiber cloth for cleaning and another for drying once done cleaning?

A half and half of alcohol and water is perfectly acceptable, but you need to make sure the water is "clean". Distilled water would make the best mix for that. The result would be streaking when dried. Test your mix on window glass. If you get streaks, something wasn't quite clean in the mix or container used.

A couple of articles I ran across while researching this awhile back....

Care and Maintenance of LCD Screens - Fairleigh Dickinson University

How Do I Safely Clean My LCD Monitor? - Samsung USA Support FAQs/Knowledge Base

The only disagreement I have with the articles above is that they mention that Petroleum Benzene is OK. Well it might be OK for the LCD, but it is not OK from a health perspective. Benzene in a known cancer causing agent, and is banned for consumer use in the U.S..
