Closing lid forces desktop to 1024x768

Gack!

T60p 1600x1200 display.

I installed the new video driver and BIOS from the software web page this morning and now when I close the lid the desktop and all windows get forced into a 1024 x 768 region. When I open the lid the menu bar is squished and then snaps to the full display size, but all of the icons and windows stay squished.

Unacceptable behaviour.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks!
Tony

Just wait for the next driver release. Or go back to the old one.

This is typical behaviour of the Generic ATI driver. Me thinks Lenovo got lazy this time and didn't really do any customizing of this set of driver to the TP.

BIOS update is meant to fix that problem.

I suggest you reinstall the GPU drivers.

Also make sure the resolution set by Windows is same as that set in Presentation Director.

Please also take a look at this thread.

Believe it or not, but Lenovo has decided that previous driver versions will no longer posted or available! The driver update page no longer lists the previous video drivers and searches for them don't reveal links (this used to work, even a few months ago). Meanwhile, support suggested a roll back which only restored the utility but not the video driver. Sigh...

It's definitely the new video driver (8.383). It is sometimes fortunate that Software Update lags the software updates page, so when I ran Software Update it found 8.362 (which I had before) and reinstalled it. The lid closing no longer blinks out for a long period of time, and doesn't show relics of the smaller display when returning to online.

Anyone else experience 8.383?

Yes I have the same problem!

I'm having av T60p plus using 8.383 and having the same problem. The only workaround that I'm aware of is to set the laptop to go into Standby when closing the lid. Works fine but it is a workaround! Would appreciate if someone could solve this!

I replaced

Code: Select all

8.383.1.1.3-070621a2-050878C-Lenovo
with

Code: Select all

8.362-070405a-046310C-Lenovo
(luckily found in c:\drivers\WIN\DISPLAY\) without uninstalling the newer one and guess what, the "close lid problem" doesn't occur anymore!

Regards and good luck, Geomatic.

I experienced the same problem. And also in my case it was caused by latest ati driver (v8.383) installed by system update. This can also be the cause of similar problems (with desktop icons messed up) that people are having with Presentation Director.

I solved it uninstalling ati drivers (just go to control-panel->add/remove software and remove the "ATI Uninstall" item, which uninstall all ati stuff), rebooting and letting Windows identify and install the video driver itself. This doesn't install the Catalyst stuff (which , by the way, was eating tons of memory on my pc) but just the basic video driver which is lighter and doesn't mess icons. You still have full control on display configuration both from display->properties and Fn-F7.

This new driver has resolved it for me:

Thanks! That driver showed up on my updates and I put into the holdoff mode until someone reported. I'll give it a try.
