1440*900 lcd quality on t61 14"

Hi,

Does anybody owns t61 14" with specified resolution? What is the quality of the matrix? who is the maker?

I'm about to buy such note, but the quality of 1280*800 (which is available in stock) disappoints me a lot as it's on par with dell d630 which has the worse matrix i've ever seen (in terms of vertical viewing angels)

can you post the video to youtube regarding vertical viewing angels (the only thing I'm concerned about), or at least say how it does compare to 1280*800 matrix.

ps: I was surprised by 12.1" thinkpads they do have stunning matrix but it's a bit to small for my eyes, they are also lacking of touch pads , and where is no wide edition

The quality of most new TFT screen is poor. To tell the true, it's even very poor if you compare with Flexview laptop or any IPS or MVA desktop screen. Comparing to glare screen, non glare seems all wached out. When I compare any laptop screen with my Dell 2407 WFP or my previous 2007 WFP, I start to cry !

Due to my work, I got this month Lenovo Thinkpad T61 (1440x900), R61 (1680x1050) and T60p (1400x1050), Lenovo 3000 N100 (1280x800) and Asus X51R (1280x800). I compare them to the old T41p (1400x1050). All are much more bright, but light leakage is very important on all new units. Perhaps even more visible now that screen are much more brighter. Viewing angle are still narrow...

Laptop prices have all droped while keeping very good features and top notch performances. But screen quality is [censored] poor... I also see some new Dell Vostro and Latitude, it's the same : very poor LCD.

LCD screens tend to get dimmer with the years, which could explain the difference in brightness between the new computers and your old T41p.

The problem is that laptop displays don't get as good as desktop displays can get, and here i am not talking about the plethora of WOOO 2 ms 22" WSXGA+ screens, which are basically good for one thing: games. Colors are inaccurate, an immersive amount of overdrive has been used, and the light uniformity is often very poor, even compared to the cheaper laptop panels.

I've seen a HP with a glossy WXGA 15.4" LCD and IMO it was not pretty sight at all - HOWEVER, compare it to screens found on laptops that are 5 years older or so, and you will see that the new screens are better.

The trend that no-one pays high amounts of money for laptops makes the R&D low. Intel has fairly stable prices on their Centrino offering, so if manufacturers want to cut prices they choose to cut down on the most expensive part - the LCD. Ever wondered why it takes decades to get OLED and SED or even LED backlit displays in production?

A friend got a issue with the screen of his T41, Lenovo exchange it on site. The new one was not brighter then mine with is older. If your read the data sheets, new TFT panels have more nits.

I agree. Most people don't buy a laptop. They buy a price, a CPU, a few features and a GPU. They did not care about color matching, good backlight and so on.

I do not compare ibm lcd to desktop ones but rather to laptops like sony, asus and even toshiba has better displays...

well it looks like I have to give up on buying t61 14" wide and buy 15" t60 4:3 ips .

If you need fine color rendering : yes.
