CPU-Z failing to see second core in a T2400
CPU-Z failing to see second core in a T2400
Don't know why, but cpu-z doesn't see the second core on my T60. Any thoughts? Thanks.
P.S. Yes, BIOS settings are correct.

Your are not the only one with this issue. I already read a file with the same problem. Have you phone Lenovo ?

No, I haven't called Lenovo. It's my T60 from work -- I think I should talk to my IT person, but she is not that competent, so I doubt she will do anything about it.Pascal_TTH wrote:Your are not the only one with this issue. I already read a file with the same problem. Have you phone Lenovo ?
Do you know if the second core is being used? If it is, I wouldn't care what is displayed. If it is not being used, then I there is a big problem.

Hum, if you don't see both cores in the task manager, it s'possible it did not work. Do you have the Lenovo installation or is it a custom installation from your *IT* manager ?
You can call Lenovo by your own during you are out of office.
I try to find the other topic but still haven't found it...
I remember I answer him less then one month ago.

No, it's not a custom install by my IT guy -- it is straight from Lenovo. A guy in the office left, and they gave me his old computer (I had a T43).Pascal_TTH wrote:Hum, if you don't see both cores in the task manager, it s'possible it did not work. Can't imagine that one core is defective...
Wish I could sort it out. Thanks for your input.

Have you try to press ThinkVantage button just after power on the laptop ? It leads you to a kind of *light* Windows Vista with various utilities to test the hardware.
I don't think one core is dead. It could happened if some one disable ACPI in the BIOS (but not sure).

The strange thing is that the WinXP lists two processors in the device manager but, in the task manager (and cpu-z), there is only one.Pascal_TTH wrote:Have you try to press ThinkVantage button just after power on the laptop ? P.S. Can't use the ThinkVanage button as it is a custom install and my company got rid of the recovery partition.

DKB
I think I figured out what the problem is: When my company's IT guys created the image for the hard drive, they used the incorrect HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer). So in Device Manager, it shows up as an ACPI PC, and not as an ACPI Multiprocessor PC. Unfortunately, WinXP does not allow you to change the HAL. The solution is to reinstall WinXP using the correct HAL. See references below:

I guess I will ask the IT guys to see if they can re-image my drive. If not, I guess I will keep my old desktop (P4 Northwood 3.4G).
