NVS 140m - Vista + Driver question

#1 Post by Kryptonic » Wed Sep 19, 2007 2:57 am

Hi guys,

I was just wondering what drivers people used for this card? Ive tried the IBM ones, but as soon as i install them Vista Update pops up and downloads the "newer" microsoft ones...

I get 4780 pc marks, and 1491 3dmark 06.... I think this is about right?

I only ask because my Flip 3D performance is a bit "sluggish" when i have more than 5 windows open...

When are Nvidia / IBM likely to release an updated driver?

Cheers
Will

hi,

i just had a quick look at those drivers and they are version 7.15.11.0143.

My current M$ drivers are 7.15.11.5657.

Surely, the m$ ones are going to be better?

I don't use Vista and I don't know how it handles update. But most time, I prefer chose the driver I use. It seems that most time, driver coming from Microsoft are *more compatible* then good performers. I check later on my T61 with the original Vista hard drive.

1400 for 3D Mark 2006 looks like the score I get.

You are worrying way too much about the Flip3D performance. Just enjoy your PC! :P

Anyway, I use the 163.44 drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com and the INF file from there. I get 1737 in 3DMark06, WXGA screen.

when u press Fn+home or End to increase/decrease brightness, do you still get the onscreen display showing the gauge?

i installed 163.44 and it didnt show up, so i went back to using default lenovo drivers.
ordered (8/12), estimated ship date (8/30). cant wait!!!

Yeah I still get the on screen displays. I went from the Lenovo drivers right to the 163.44s and it worked on the first try for me.

I extracted the setup files, pasted their INF in there, and ran the setup. I did not uninstall the Lenovo drivers first.

I went with the 163.44 since those are also drivers that are availible from www.nvidia.com (www.nzone.com to be more specific) when I started using the drivers. I was planning to check out the newer official driver soon after people on laptopvideo2go.com check it out for a few days once they repackage it.

Aero seems to be running ALOT smoother now! especially flip3d!!! ive just opened (randomly) about 15 different windows and its jumping into flip3d ALOT faster!

i can also confirm the OSD also works correctly (volume, flight, screen, and power settings)

Cheers dude!

With ForceWare higher then 150, it's far better whatever you do. Except if you plan to run games or have issues, there is no use to upgrade each time a new driver is out.

hey,

its forceware version 163.44

component version: 7.15.11.6344

aero and flip3d are MUCH smoother, i think the slow downs is caused by the power management kicking in and throttling the cpu/gpu...possibily

im really starting to like vista now!

hmmm, i got the 163.44 drivers installed, and i got the on-screen display working also.

but, now i can no longer use my 1400x1024 resolution o_O

EDIT: it just doesnt show up when i run the multiple display wizard, but if i just go to properties, or open up the options, its there.

mmmm thats an interesting problem, im assuming your using the hacked drivers from LV2GO?

i read somewhere on Notebook Forums that other ppl using the non official drivers had problems with OSD not showing, brightness settings not working and other strange problems....

You could always try a different driver? I would plug my tft in but knowing my luck ill have the same problem, and the dream will be shattered!!!

so for now, im going to bury my head in the sand and keep telling myself that one day, maybe, IBM will release some nice brand spanky new NV140m drivers :-)

did u download the Modified INF file? out of the box the drivers wont work for the card, u need LV2GO's "hacked" inf file... it just convinced the drivers to install... they normally arnt signed so XP/Vista will need confirmation before it will install...

Sorry for the non technical talk lol

Running 163.69 WHQL drivers now. These are the latest drivers available on www.nvidia.com, I downloaded the repackaged driver + moddied .INF file from LV2GO.

Everything seems OK, I still have the on screen displays for volume/Thinklight/whatever, World of Warcraft may be *slightly* more smooth with this driver, 3DMark06 scores are similar.

I just use 3DMark06 just to make sure everything is working OK and installed correctly, I do not care if driver 123.45 is 30 3DMarks higher than driver 123.12 or anything like that.

ouch...i didn't do it. but it looks like i didn't find the modified INF that matched with my forceware type. now i'm downloading Forceware 163.14 with INF enhancer. then i will report the result to this forum.

just like to remind everyone the beta driver 163.71 driver is out, installed with modified inf to allow use on 140m.... woah! its even better than the last one....

aero and flip3d are 2x as fast, hardly any render or "pull up" lag now... 3d marks improved 1491 > 1519, not much i know, but its worth a freebie!

good luck guys, cheers will

I noticed with Windows XP, those drivers did not allow to change screen brightness any more !!! So, I went back to lenovo ones and it works again.
