its rather depressing the hoops we have to jump through to get new hardware to work isnt it!

yes, and with the .67 they said:

"Improved performance of the graphics memory manager on GeForce 8 series GPUs running DirectX 9 applications in single-GPU configurations. These improvements solve cases of reported performance slowdowns in some 3D applications with high graphics settings and resolutions."

so as the 140 is based on the 8600 i think it is worth to update...

The NVS 140 is a 8400 part, and the 570 is a 8600 part for the GPU core. The above advice is still correct, I am just tossing this in here for the sake of completeness.

im going to keep with the driver im using at the moment, at least until IBM release a new NVS140 driver.... It cant be too long, they must have sold 100s of 1000s of these units and i've heard of no end of people moaning about the driver stabililty / performance

im not really moaning, because i remember the days of my old Radeon 9700 and all the "new" catalyst drivers ATI used to release, and how appauling they were lol, i guess we're just going to have to wait!

on a lighter note, i went to my m8s last night for some multiplayer action on C&C Generals (Zero Hour), and i run mine everything on maximum and it ran a dream!

Dispite what people say, the nvs140m isnt a bad little card! the best of both worlds in my opinion, gpu power and battery friendly!

I can get about 2.5hrs browsing on my t61 (with a 7200rpm disc) and a bout 1.5hours of gameplay!

@ocellaris: oh ok my fault..

@Kryptonic: why do you want to wait for the lenovo driver ? why should they be better ?

I've just installed driver version 163.75 for Vista 32bits. It worked just fine in vista. However, when I tried to play half life 2: episode 1, the screen became disturbing. T61 was crashed. I had to use 3 keys to restart it, and entered Safe mode to roll back the driver.

Does anyone try to play HL, after upgraded the driver? How do you experience it?

I'm currently using the driver from Lenovo (TV System Update): Version 7.15.11.145.

I don't use the driver from Windows Update.

My "problem" is the temperature of the NVS 140M: It's the hottest part of my T61 and it's hardly ever under 55 °C (131 °F) in idle (ordinary surfing, mail, ... on Vista 32 Bit, without Aero; values from CPUID HWMonitor).

So I'd like to have the driver which produces the lowest temperature of the GPU.

BTW: How is your GPU temperature?

On my machine, I'm using the latest LTV2G drivers with the modified INF with no problems. My 570m idle temp (with Aero) is the same as it was with Lenovo drivers ~ 53 to 55C. Seems high but I think that is normal for these machines.
