Presentation Director, Vista, dual screens
Presentation Director, Vista, dual screens
Hi,
I have a T60p running Vista Business x86 with latest fixes to bios, presentation director, Vista as of yesterday.
I have an Advanced Dock with DVI-out connected to a ?L20p? (1600x1200 20.1" LCD). No analogue monitor is attached
I use Presentation director, and have
- an office profile, with 1600x1200 on both screens. Desktop spread across both with the external one being primary
- default profile being 1600x1200 on laptop screen
What I find is that some of the time (perhaps 30%) when I UNDOCK from the laptop and sleep (which I usually do in that order, in rapid succession) the laptop goes to sleep fine.
However when resumed the internal screen is blank. I can hibernate and restart, and although the boot/"resuming" screen displays, once the OS is up again the screen is blank. Clearly running, but not outputing to the right place.
The only way out is a reboot. Painful.
I've tried virtually every video driver going. right now I'm using the official lenovo one (although windows update just downloaded an update to it), but have also used
* Modified (mobilityNET) catalyst drivers
* official FireGL V5200 drivers from ATI
All show the same problem.
I've also seen the same behaviour under XP in the past.
Any suggestions as to where I go from here? If I drop presentation director how will I fare in dock/undock & occasional screen presenting?
As you might guess this is written in some level of dispair, although a considered approach involving detailed tracing / debugging is another option if anyone wants to listen....
Thanks.

I do almost the same thing as you, except the external monitor is set to 1920x1200 and I don't use dual screens. I gave up on PD recently, and while my problems seem to be less, it still isn't an ideal situation.planetf1 wrote:Definately tried Fn-F7, but not Fn-SPACE ... will do so next time.
Meantime anyone know what capability base vista would provide.
I guess I'll simply disable PD and see...
It seems the T60p/new dock combination with Vista is a step backwards from my old A31p/dock and XP, which seemed to always know what screen configuration to use.
This setup thinks I want a dual screen set up whenever it docks, even though I don't. I simply want the internal screen to shut off, and the external screen to light up at 1920x1200.
Another oddity is the insistence of this set up to switch to 1024x768 when undocking, before it settles on 1600x1200. This usually screws up the icons and Yahoo widgets on my desktop. At least it now does end up at 1600x1200, which when PD was installed it would always go to 1024x768 and stay there.
It's all quite disappointing, and I guess I've got to get used to it, after way too many hours of fighting it to try and get this new set up to perform as well as my old one. IBM, ATI and MS should be embarrassed and ashamed.
I wish I had better news for you. I'm rooting for you and hope if you find an answer you will share it here.
