I just sent an R51e to EasyServ for slop in the right sided hinge. The laptop is about three or four years old and gets daily use in my medical office. It is still under extended warranty. They took it back for service, no questions asked. Another five R50/R51 laptops at my office have no such problem and get equal and heavy use.
First Thinkpad 755CX in 1995. First IBM: PC 1982 8088 w 64K RAM, dual floppy. Currently in use:

i regularly tighten the screw on the left side hinge of my T60P as it "loossens" with time. Probably due to its proximity to a heat source (heatsink) and at the same time the stress it undergoes from opening and closing the LCD.
you can check if the screw holding your LCD hinge is loose as well.

how can i find the screw? would it be in the same place as the t61, and my right side is more loose, therefore I would need placement of that screw. Thank you for your helprnsolo wrote:i regularly tighten the screw on the left side hinge of my T60P as it "loossens" with time. Loose T-60 Hinges
After about four months of light use, the left hinge on my T-60 began to move somewhat.
I located the set screw on rach hinge and gave it a tweak.
It's been about 8 months and all it well. The hinges are both nice and secure. No movement what so ever.
Hope this helps.

Loose T-60 Hinges
To locate the screw in order to tighten your hinges, start by turning off your unit.
Flip it over and locate the screw behind the rear rubber foot rest.
NOTE: There are two screws behind each foot rest. One is for the case itself, the other is for the hinge. This is the same for each side.
It's a very simple thing to do.... Just don't over tighten.
Hope this gives enough to the newbeeees .............
Kindest Regards, Steve

Thank you Steve!Truthfinder wrote:snipped
I looked at it, there are 2 screws under my right hinge; is it the one furthest to the side or the one more towards the middle? Thank you

Hindge screew location
It is NOT the screw at the outer edge. It's the screw next to it, closer to the inside edge. It's the same on both side.
Best to you, Steve

Thanks..tightened it, but still there's a good inch of give when flexing the right upper corner.Truthfinder wrote:It is NOT the screw at the oter edge. It's the screw next to it, closer to the inside edge. It's the same on both side.

and to my astonishment, there is a screw missing as well...maybe an inch towards the front edge...what is up with that?

A picture is worth thousand words.
If under warranty go to any nearby IBM authorized repair center and get it examined or tightened (you'll have to go to the city) else send it to IBM EasyServ. The number is 1-800-426-7378 (24/7)!
If out of warranty then below is the HMM for your consideration to do things on your own:

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
