Increase fan sound or perhaps hard drive sound?

#1 Post by AlexBell » Sat Sep 22, 2007 1:20 am

My T60 running Windows XP now emits a definite whine from time to time, though I don't remember it doing so when I got it six weeks or so ago.

Is this normal?

The sound is intermittent - it lasts for perhaps 2-3 minutes and then stops. Is it more likely to be the fan or the hard drive?
Regards, Alex

Is there any hot air leaving the laptop when this is happening?

My T60p runs cool and I never hear the fan run. The hard drive also appears very quiet.

If I wasn't sure if it was the fan or hard drive as a precaution I would step up my backup strategy and run the Hitachi DFT to test the hard drive.

Thanks again, Brad. No, I can't detect any hot air or indeed any other increase in temperature.

Err, what's the Hitachi FTD?
