Spontaneous limited connectivity

#1 Post by theuberpig » Mon Sep 24, 2007 2:25 pm

Hi all,

On my T61, every so often after a period of internet use, my computer will suddenly give me the "limited connectivity" treatment. The only way I've found to remedy the situation is to restart.

Anyone know if this is some stupid glitch, or if it's a problem with the card itself? Any help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Alright... How about posting some more information like what type of connection this is (wired/wirelss), what type of network adapter you use, if other PCs have the problem on the same network, if you have updated firmware on the router, if this only happens on battery power... Does this happen after the PC sleeps or anything?

You really need to give us more information so we can help you.

Had this on my T60p, after a number of hours. Only thing I found that fixed it was to wipe the disk and a complete reinstall of the OS.

My apologies- I'm rather out of it today. The issue is with my wireless networking and from what I gather no one else is having this problem. The network itself is not my own, it is one that spans the entire residence hall that I live in (college, woohoo). Here's all my info:

Thinkpad T61
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2 ghz)
2 gb RAM
Vista Ultimate (upgraded from Home Basic)
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

...And that's about all that's relevant, anyway, I think. Let me know if you want any more info.

Thanks again,
Robert

It could be an interference issue.

I am thinking though, it might be caused by your router. I also experience something similar at home when I am connected wirelessly. I notice that my Netgear router has the following setting for WPA-PSK: "Enter the Key Lifetime. This setting determines how often the encryption key is changed. Shorter periods provide greater security, but adversely affect performance. If desired, you can change the default value." I have found that there is a maximum value that I can enter here of about 10 hours. I am suspecting that when this key times out, that is when I lose my connection. I wish I could turn this feature off or set an infinite key lifetime, but alas, such is not the case.

interesting, i have a similar issue.

i have a T61
2.0
2 gig
windows xp pro
Atheros a/b/g.

im at UCR, and im using wireless.
every hour or so, i lose connection, it says wireless unavailable, and it reconnects in like 5 seconds. very annoying.

the weird thing is, my friend lives 20 ft away from me, uses a macbookpro, and has the same issue, but his takes longer to reconnect, like minutes.

it just happened again while writing this post, so i waited a few seconds before submitting.

i would prefer not to reformat, because my machine is only like 2 weeks old, and i did a clean install then
ordered (8/12), estimated ship date (8/30). cant wait!!!
