Heat - Hard drive

#1 Post by apoon204 » Fri Sep 28, 2007 10:26 am

I don't find any hot feeling of my right palm that locate above the hard drive when I use my T61p for normal works.

But, when I leave the machine alone for a while, it starts loading screen saver and turn off the screen (power management). I discover that the HDD icon of the machine is keep flashing, seems like the HDD is running and doing lots of works. After a while more, I begin to have hot feeling above the hard drive (just around the fingerprint sensor).

Then I go into Power Management setting, and the profile is set to turn off the HDD after 15mins, which is the time I start the screen saver.

When I resume the machine from power saving mode, the heat will go away after some time.

The problem is, I don't find any reason for turning off the HDD while it still processing. Is that it need to save the current information of HDD such that it generating heat? Or it does have some background process needed to run for power saving such as turn off HDD?

Thanks.

The hard drive on my T60 runs anywhere from 90-115 degrees. I can't figure out how to get mine to go cooler either. I wish it would though ...

Avoid using screen savers which require hard disk access.
