PowerMizer + Vista = Disabled?

Hi guys,
ive been having some real problems with my t61 (as u might remember via past threads)
I did some digging on the nvidia site, and it turns out Vista controls the power functions of the nvs140m's GPU via the Link State Power Management functions....
In order to try keep the GPU at "full power" to maintain a slick Aero experiance i figured id disable this setting when its "Plugged In" - so i did that, rebooted, all looks ok, open Nvidia Monitor and (supprise supprise) the gpu is STILL being clocked right down, so when i open close big windows i get a massive blow of lag while gpu clocks back up
is there anything i can do? i know it shouldnt bug me, but im really regretting using Vista now
very very tempted to go back to XP!
