My drive will not defragment, or even be analyzed.

For some reason, my T60p's hard drive refuses to let Diskeeper look at it. I tried running the bundled version of Diskeeper Lite (which has worked fine in the past), and got this error: "The defragment operation you requested failed to start on Volume Preload (C:)." I tried reinstalling the program, to no avail. I then uninstalled it entirely and pirated a full version of Diskeeper 10 Professional Premier (a totally different edition of the program) and got the exact same error message. Just to be sure, I ran full scans in Ad-Aware, AVG, and Spybot, which didn't fix it.

I have no idea what the heck's going on here, and I really need to defragment. Has anyone heard of anything like this before, or have any advice?

Try running CHKDSK to check for disk errors. If that comes up empty, you could try installing and running the free version of O&O defrag (O&O Defrag 2000 Freeware Edition 3.5.562).

Check that you have not disabled the paging file. Diskeeper requires a paging file to run.
