I think it's like the kind of annoying sound you'd hear when you hold a mic near a speaker or sometimes when you get too close in a concert, isn't it?
You might still be able to hear it after 30, our ears don't always lose their high frequency sensitivity at the same rate, some people can hear noises like this at later ages than other people. I guess it's "normal" for people over 30 not to hear it but but it's not true for everyone.

I'm 29 and I can still hear it, but to me it is very quiet. When play the sound for one of my sisters who is 40 she can't hear it at all. My punk nephew has a ringtone on his phone like this, only I think it's even higher pitched. When his phone rings his friends hear it and the teacher doesn't. Punk kids with their high tech ways to trick adults :lol:

I love it how this turned from a query about processor noise; to a discussion on hearing loss and paranoia of the same.
