Quick Performance and Gaming Review of T61p

#1 Post by StarSheep » Sun Oct 14, 2007 12:23 pm

Hi guys

I was able to get my hands on a T61p, the 6460-6yg and I have to say that machine is just awesome.

Compared to the T60p the fan is very quiet, not running all the time and making a much nicer sound. The hauling noise of the T60P Fan is gone and you can work with this machine perfectly in a quiet environment.

Now to the gaming part. Here are the scores:

- 3DMark05: 7989 (standard Lenovo Drivers)
- 3DMark06: 3870 (standard Lenovo Drivers)

- 3DMark05: 8381 (modded drivers)
- 3DMark06: 4063 (modded drivers)

You can get the drivers here if you wanna try them out:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

Also with the modded drivers you have a lot more settings an in my opinion the interface of the driver is much nicer this way.

I also installed Half Life 2 Episode 2 and it runs perfectly smooth with the following settings:

- 1920x1200
- all settings to max
- 16x anisotroph filtering
- 4x Anti Aliasing

Futhermore I tried the Unreal Tournament 3 Demo and it also runs very smooth with these settings:

- all available settings to max
- 1680x1050

I am very impressed with the machine.

FYI, all the playing was done with the modded drivers.

Hope that this helped somebody.

Comments are of course welcome

did you notice better/worse battery life with the new drivers? Do the new drivers allow you to underclock the gpu at all for increased battery life?

thanks!

Hi

Sorry, I didn't check for the battery life at all.
Regarding unclocking, well, you cannot change the clock settings if you mean that but with the Lenovo Driver there is no way, or mayb I didn't find it, to influence the PowerMaximizer in the NVIDIA GPU, with the modded ones you have a slider there. So that may help with battery life.

Just wondering how you got a 1920x1200 display? The best I've ever seen on the Lenovo ordering site is 1680x1050.

15.4" WUXGA 1920x1200

15.4" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050)

I've seen a guy with very good feedback selling the same T61p just like your specs at 1700$. I'm wondering if 3000$ is better?

I'm waiting until the prices hit 1200-1300 :) so I can get one.

Now, I am enjoy my T61 paid at 945$ shipped to Germany!
You should try to play Tom Clancys Rainbow Six Vegas and see how fast your computer is.

PS: when you play HF 2, please post your fps rate. I would like to know

BTW, HL² and UT2003 run fine in 1680x1050 on Quadro NVS 140m (of course with no AA nor AF). Those two games are not graphic intensive (out of date).

PS : UT3 or UT2003 ? Hope it's UT3 beacause 2003 is too common ! :D

HL2 is more processor intensive than video card intensive. That's why a lot of computers with low-end cards can run it.

Try putting another 2 gigs in there and see what happens :(

There appears to be an issue with the T61p when using 4 gigs of RAM and gaming...

Runs perfect on 2 gigs though.

After putting another 1GB to my T61, I've tried to play HL2 Episode 1. It runs very smoothly at maximum graphic configuration. but fps is 20-40, very much the same at before installing 1GB.

So if you say it runs smoothly, doesn't mean much. Fps will tell everything. Otherwise, it's not an important criteria to rate how good your computer is when playing games.

Try F.E.A.R and let us know how it perform. You can download the demo and try it.

I know some of the t61p has the superior card compare to the t61. I assume the t60 will perform way way worst.
