Wireless card quit working T60

I have a T60 with an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection. It suddenly quit working yesterday. It seemed to make an unusual whirring sound before it quit. The computer recognizes that the card is there and I can connect wirelessly with our second laptop and with an external wireless card so the problem definitely seems to be with the internal card.

I updated the drivers but that didn't help. I have not removed the keyboard to see if it has become dislodged. I wanted to ask first if that might be a possibility (I'm always a little uncomfortable prying things off). I'm also wondering if it may just need to be replaced. I wanted to try to fix it before making a call to Lenovo.

If anyone has some other trouble shooting ideas I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

Run PC-Doctor and see if it catches an error against the mPCI wifi card.

Yeah, I'd call Lenovo and ask for a replacement. I believe it is a customer replaceable item, so you're going to have to take the keyboard and/or palm rest off anyway to replace it. Consult the hardware manintenance manual for the T60 at lenovo.com for details.

True Confessions. A stupid mistake.

On the trouble shooting page, Lenovo said that there is sometimes an icon in the system tray for the wireless card to turn on and off the radio. I didn't have that. I found the Access Connections software on their site so I downloaded that. It gave me the choice to power on the radio but it wouldn't work. So I did a google search on that and discovered there's a little sliding button on the front of the T60 that powers on and off all wireless radios. I must have slid it to turn wireless off by accident.

I guess I can give myself a little break since the external wireless card worked fine. Also the troubleshooting page didn't suggest checking the button.

This is the website where I found that the little button exists: http://www.lenovoblogs.com/designmatters/?p=141.

Thank you for the suggestion with PC-doctor. It got me started on finding the solution.
