Dual external monitors resolution and other questions

#1 Post by kingweb » Sun Oct 14, 2007 11:16 pm

Hi Guys,

I just got my t61 14.1 with NVIDIA and WXGA+.

I just ordered the mini advanced dock.

I want to be able to connect 2 external 20" monitors and have them both use 1680x1050 resolution.

From what I understand, I will need to connect one monitor to the VGA iutput on the dock, and the other to the DVI output on the dock.

My questions are:

1. I read that the DVI output will only go up to 1600x1200. What about 1680x1050? Can I get this? If not, can I use the VGA out on the laptop itself instead?

2. Assuming that the DVI can support 1680x1050, can I put some sort of a splitter on the DVI output so that both external monitors will use DVI?

Thanks

1680x1050 resolution is definitely supported. You can drive at least 1920x1200, and possibly up to 2560x1600 depending on your model of Thinkpad.

You cannot split the DVI and get two monitors without using some external device like DualHead2Go. Your best bet is to drive one monitor from the DVI and the other from the VGA (both at 1680x1050). When you do this, your internal (Thinkpad) monitor will be dark.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
