Cingular WAN Help

#1 Post by BccKiller » Mon Oct 15, 2007 5:52 pm

I just got T61 with Cingular WAN card build in. Is it possible to use other carrier SIM card on my system? I am in Thailand right now and put Thailand SIM card in. My system cannot see that SIM card. It says NO SIM card. Does Cingular lock the WAN card in TP system?

Thank you in advance, guys!!!

I did dig around and found out that the Cingular card that build into Thinkpad is carrier locked. You will have to unlock it before you can use other sim card. Does anyone here know how to unlock it?

Thanks,

I think it's called "WWAN" card. Not WAN (Wide Area Network) card.

I'm not sure how to unlock them though.

I don't know the answer to your question, but you might try searching the following forum. You may find your answer there.

Sorry about the name, guys.

I did try to talk with AT&T people today. Here is what i got from them.

1. First, you will have to sign up with the data line service. You will have to use the service at least 90 days before you and attemp to unlock the card - this may be change if you can talk with their customer service (depend on your credit).

2. Once you activate the card and sign up for the service, you will have to use the service on AT&T network for at least 1 hour so your IMEI on the card will get register on the network.

3. At least 24 hours before you leave, you will have to contact AT&T International Department. If you get everything setup correctly, they will be able to UNLOCKE the card on your Thinkpad for you. Remember, you will have to pass all the qualifications from AT&T before they can do that and it will take about 24 hours before it will be unlocked. Once you get the unit unlocked, you will be able to use any sim card on your system.

AT&T Customer Service: 1 800 331 0500 (Activation & Setup Account)
AT&T International Service: 1 800 335 4685

Just F.Y.I.
