WOW , what a difference. (on Vista) now i feel the difference from my T43 machine. till now it wasn't that impressive. but it is zippy now.
Ram usage jumped from around 500-700 to 1.1G.
if you running 1G as i did, don't even think about it, get it right away.
i run Call of duty (the demo) on max everything. run smoothly !

I always manually set my pagefile to double the size of my RAM, just to be safe. I don't know if this is the best way or not. I always have plenty of hard drive space so I don't worry.
The thing is you don't ever want to run out of virtual memory space under any circumstances, so I like to stay on the safe side and keep the file large. If I ran out of hard drive space, I would worry about that when / if it ever happened. I don't think it can hurt you to have a larger than necessary page file.
The other thing I do is, I set the minimum size and the maximum size to the same thing. That way, Windows is never screwing around adjusting the size, growing and shrinking the pagefile. That slows things down. You don't want windows constantly mucking around growing and shrinking the pagefile, it can slow things down.
I have been VERY happy with how extremely fast vista runs on my T61P. It is truly a joy to use for daily computer tasks. Congrats on the upgrade

with 4GB physical memory i set my pagefile to 6144 initial and 12288 maximum. this is under vista ultimate x64.
edit: hellbore makes a good point above. maybe i'll set both at 12288 (12GB) and be done with it.

Dang you have ultimate x64? I only have vista business x64. Dang, I got out-vista'd...
EDIT: Before you take my advice you might want to research it on your own, I read somewhere it was a good idea to do it that way but I could be wrong hehe... I totally am not an expert on how the windows pagefile works, I have a general understanding but don't put too much trust in what I say

out-vista'd... that's funny

i moved to VUx64 using the ABR key swap method since IBM wouldn't let me get ultimate x64 pre-configured. i would have done a clean installation either way but it would have been nice to get what i wanted from the start.
i'll do some homework on the maximum pagefile setting under vista. i'd hate to crash illustrator or autocad because the pagefile can't expand. my 64GB c: partition currently has up to 41GB available for paging so it's not like i'm low on space. letting windows manage it is obviously the safest way to go (even if the pagefile does become fragged) so i might just go back to that method.
besides, my T61p is so fast that i doubt pagefile tweaks would make a noticeable difference.

thanks , let us know what your research result on the pagfile.
yeah i think so too , it runs so good as it is now i am not sure changing will effect anything.
note: i just changed it to 6000M min and max.
i have a friend that actually cancel the page file completely and he claims it works much better that way ...
