I have a T60 with a clean install of Win XP SP 2 (not from Lenovo) and required drivers installed (as far as I can tell). However, I'm having trouble with one device in device manager showing as "Unknown device":

Location: on Intel(R) 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9
Device ID: ACPI\ATM1200\4&38462492&0

I thought this was the Power Manager driver but I have that installed:

7kku06ww
Power Management Driver for Windows 98 SE/Me/2000/XP/Vista
Version 1.43(Certified)


I also installed the power manager utility

and despite installing these I still have the unknown ACPI device.

I've run System Update 3 and it doesn't show any critical/recommended updates.

The one problem I have with my computer which I assume is related is that audio does not work in windows. In BIOS I get audio beeps when using the hardware keys to turn volume up/down but I don't get any audio from Windows. Device manager shows the following drivers installed:

Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
Video Codecs

and I installed

kb888111xp2en
Micrsoft UAA High Definition Audio class driver (Q888111)
For Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
April 4, 2006


but still no audio and that one unknown device.

Can any tell me what it is exactly and what I need to install? And if that is not my audio problem, can anyone make suggestions related to that?

it's the atmel TPM.

However, after installing the driver I have a new problem. I now have two instances of "Atmel TPM" under "Sytem devices" and one of them has an exclamation point with the error:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

This problem one has device id "ROOT\SYSTEM\0003".

The other Atmel TPM is device id "ACPI\ATM1200\4&38462492&0" and appears fine in device manager.

Both devices point to the same drivers.

Any continued assistance will be appreciated.

uninstall the one with the yellow bang, reboot, and see if it goes away.

Thanks, that fixed it (the second listing went away and everything looks good in device manager).

Unfortunately it looks like audio was not related to the unknown device as there still is no audio in Windows. I'll start a new thread in a bit specifically regarding the audio problem (all drivers installed, works in bios, not in windows).

Today whilst working on a clients ThinkPad T60, I experienced the same issue.

I had re-installed the NB to windows 7 32bit, The automatic search in 'device manager' found every other driver besides this underlined

"Unknown device" >> details >> ACPI\ATM1200"

I then proceeded to download every obvious driver I felt was required, through the appropriate website >> http://preview.tinyurl.com/3apstxu


I can't recall the poster's name, but I did see a post relating to " TPM(Trusted Platform Module)" as being this 'UNKNOWN driver'. And this is exactly what fixed the issue.

I downloaded this XP,Vista Version of the driver TPM, as I didn't see one for win7 >> http://bit.ly/nP7vdT

When you run the .exe It just looks as if it installs too quickly despite It's small size.
I then tried to install it a different way by opening Device Manager >> Right click on the 'unknown driver' >> Select 'Update Driver Software' >> then 'Browse my computer for Driver Software' >> In the following ('Search for driver software in this location' Textbox) I replaced the current directory path with 'C:' >> Kept 'include subfolders' checked and proceeded to Click NEXT. Voila

I just by default run a search from the root of the primary partition C:

Good Practise, and never takes long anyways.
