Overclocking a laptop is almost never a good idea. The form factor and the compactness of a laptop means it will not deal with extra heat well, and you risk shortening the life of you CPU or GPU. If you want more performance, go buy yourself a desktop.

your safer bet would be to buy a T7700, T7800, X7800, or X7900 processor rather than trying to fry your thinkpad.   however, any of these options (including overclocking) will quickly void your warranty.

I think overclocking on the Thinkpad is a horribly foolish idea.

The Thinkpad is a marvel of engineering, they put a lot of work into making the cooling system work with only 1 very quiet fan. Doing something that makes the system run hotter than it was designed to, like overclocking, is pretty much guaranteed to push the poor little cooling system beyond what it can handle. Heck it's already amazing that it can cool the CPU + GPU with such a quiet small fan setup, you really can't expect it to handle the added strain of overclocking.
