I ordered a IBM T60 (15'' wide screen) 2 weeks ago. The default resolution is 1680*1050. It surprises me all the stuff become so tiny under the revolution, which never happens in Mac. computer system in uni using the same resolution... I am used to the 1024*768 display on my T30 so I found it really hard to adjust to the new setting... Even though the system font can be increased by increasing DPI, the web pages are absolutely unreadable... I have to increase the page text size all the time when browsing, which is a pain! Besides, the images of the webpage are horribly small and I can't do nothing about it.. It's killing my eyes.

You guys have the same problems? I hope IBM and the operation system company could figure out a way to make the web page more readable under high resolution display.

My new T61p is also 15" widescreen, but running at WUXGA resolution - 1920x1200.

Even at this higher resolution, I have zero complaints about the readability of websites.

Lucky you, mine is 15.4" WXGA TFT. Thinking about return it for a T61...

When I increase DPI in Display Properties to 111%, that worked well for me. This works much better than just increasing the font size.

Alternatively, you can use the Opera browser and set the preferences to a specific zoom level such as 110% or 120%. This way, every webpage you open will open at your chosen zoom level. http://www.opera.com

the problem is web devs that setup their pages out of spec that way Windows can't adjust the DPI on the page because the text size is "written in stone" Sometimes even when you go to View - Text Size and change it to the largest one it doesn't make any difference. This happens with certain other web apps too, i think with Flash you can't also change the size of the embedded text.

IBM and MS can't really change anything there. MACs also should have the same problem because the WWW is the wild west and is independend of any operating system.

As for me, i couldn't use (W)XGA resolution on ANY laptop. There's just too much scrolling involved. With all the ads and stuff these websites have these days plus all the toolbars i see people install, your first page will only be the 2 ads on top of the website. Then you scroll down and read 1 paragraph, 2 if you're lucky and you've gotta scroll again. At least with (W)SXGA+ you can see almost the full first page (some sites) without any scrolling.

I agree it does suck if you have bad eyes but that's what glasses and contacts are for. I'd much rather be able to open 2 browsers side by side or word documents or something vs having text that size.

The only Mac laptop with 1680x1050 resolution is the 17" MacBook Pro, which has a larger display than your 15.4" T60 and so things look bigger.

Well.. After one week use of the new WSXGA+ display, I still can't like it... Maybe wide screen is not suitable. I have to move my eyes frequently from one end to the other to read the whole wide screen and I tend not to do muli-tasks either. The small image and text size annoyed me so much.

If you use the newer IE, there is a "page" icon near the upper right hand corner, there is a "zoom" tab that you can use to bump up the text and images by different %, it works quite well, although sometimes certain hot link may not line up exactly with the text, and you may need to scroll side to side to see everything.
