Does MDI-X work for gigabit?

I am trying to connect my T61p to my desktop with Intel 1000 Pro card directly using just regular cable. Expecting gigabit connection, but only got 100M. :?

Resolved. Worked with a pre-built cable. Seems my home make cable isn't gigabit friendly.
