DVD-RW Drive Won't Read DVDs Anymore

My T60's DVD-RW drive doesn't want to read DVDs anymore, just CDs. I have:

1. Taken compressed air to the lense.
2. Taken a qtip with Windex to the lense and dried it off.
3. Become very frustrated.

This is the second drive I've had in here.

Have you installed the proper drivers?

I don't know if cleaning the lens would help since reading CD's is working.

If still under warranty maybe Lenovo can send a replacement.

Call IBM and ask for replacement....tell us how that goes by posting here :D

I have had a non-reading DVD-CDRW in the past...Lenovo just replace..practically no questions yada yada were asked.

If I am not mistaken, the drive uses a different laser for the CD than for the DVD. That is not to say that you don't have a bad registry entry or corrupt driver causing your problem. I have not tried this, but you might try downloading and booting up one of the Linux Live CD's and see if the drive will work with that or not. Probably a better idea - try booting up PC Doctor for DOS and see what it's diagnostics tell you.

Note: Lenovo's website is currently down. The link above should work later.

Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up just ordering a new one from a third-party vendor. Linux wasn't liking the drive either.
