Everything seems to be fine yesterday after I set it up following the installation wizard etc., but the wireless connection speed peaked at no more than 54 Mbps, either with or without the Xtreme notebook adaptor inserted in the PC, and I had no idea how to force the wireless mode to N format.
After finding this thread http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... ght=xtreme, I thought the WAP might be the reason why this matched set up of Xtreme router/PCMCIA card can't get beyond the 54 Mbps even when the two devices are only a foot apart.
I first tried disabling the WPA, that didn't work and things just got worse from there, pretty soon I was unable to connect to my own wireless router, than after a number of reset, uninstall and reinstall of the router control software, I now can no longer see the wireless LAN icon when I click on the My Network Places tab, all I can see now is the Xtreme N Gigabit router where it used to be both Intel Pro ??? network adaptor and the Wireless LAN icons, and I cannot see any radio device other than Bluetooth device when I used Fn-F5.
I also tried toggling the Fn-F5 combination, turned the wireless switch on and off, all without any success in "finding" the "lost" wireless network icon......
I fully admit to be totally inexperienced at this network thing with just the bare surface understanding at most, and trying to achieve the 8021.11n connection speed today has just been frustrating to say the least.
Sure would appreciate some help figuring out why the wireless network icon disappeared on me, or how to re-enable it so it appears on the My Network Places list again, at that point I will call D-Link to figure out the N connection.
Many thanks in advance.
Ken
