Just received a new T61P with Windows XP and It's quite slow
Anyone have any tips on some items that can be removed to make this Notebook a bit quicker. My mother and sister say it's way too slow. I have a 7200 RPM HDD and 2 GB of RAM and 2.2 Core 2 Duo. The problem I think is from the exra software that comes built into this machine. Any tips on how to make it faster?

It should be really fast with those specs.
You didn't say how long you have had it or how much third party software is installed. Does it have viruses on it? Spyware? There sneak onto your system over time and will slow you down.
If you haven't had it very long then before you get a lot of software installed on it you should backup your data, reboot, hit the blue Thinkvantage button and selective restore it leaving out the things you don't want such as maybe Access Connections, Client security, Norton, etc. Then again if you want these thing be sure to include them. Everybody wants different things.
A fresh install without any unwanted programs should run quite nicely. I'm thinking Windows got corrupted and that is why it is slow.

Sometimes such slowness is simply due to Windows downloading/installing updates, or a virus scanner scanning for viruses in the background.

Thanks for that tip. I also have two other problems. In all the bedrooms we can't connect to the wireless connection as signal reception is weak. The Apple I mac, Dell and Fujitsu laptop all pick up teh signal with good recetion except for this new T61 with Windows XP
