Anyone have any tips on some items that can be removed to make this Notebook a bit quicker. My mother and sister say it's way too slow. I have a 7200 RPM HDD and 2 GB of RAM and 2.2 Core 2 Duo. The problem I think is from the exra software that comes built into this machine. Any tips on how to make it faster?

It should be really fast with those specs.
You didn't say how long you have had it or how much third party software is installed. Does it have viruses on it? Spyware? There sneak onto your system over time and will slow you down.

If you haven't had it very long then before you get a lot of software installed on it you should backup your data, reboot, hit the blue Thinkvantage button and selective restore it leaving out the things you don't want such as maybe Access Connections, Client security, Norton, etc. Then again if you want these thing be sure to include them. Everybody wants different things.
A fresh install without any unwanted programs should run quite nicely. I'm thinking Windows got corrupted and that is why it is slow.

隨機自帶的軟件只會造成開機過程緩慢,只要在msconfig里清理一下啟動項目就好了
如果開機后在使用時也很慢,那可能就是有軟件沖突或者病毒引起的了

Sometimes such slowness is simply due to Windows downloading/installing updates, or a virus scanner scanning for viruses in the background.

If it is still slow now, make a set of recovery cd's and then press F11 at boot during the IBM screen and restore it. That might help it. Otherwise it is time to call IBM. Maybe there is something wrong with it.

Perform Custom Factory Restore. Instructions can be found in this thread.

Thanks for that tip. I also have two other problems. In all the bedrooms we can't connect to the wireless connection as signal reception is weak. The Apple I mac, Dell and Fujitsu laptop all pick up teh signal with good recetion except for this new T61 with Windows XP  My mother is quite unhappy and wants to sen dthe unit back. She says it is very very slow (which it is), can't pick up and connect to wifi from any of the bedroom (while all other computers in the house can) and the speakers sound like they are shot :? . I bought this laptop for my mom hoping she would like it and she is quite unhappy with this laptop
