Black Screen

#1 Post by jfsq24 » Thu Oct 25, 2007 9:56 am

Hello all, I'm having issues with my laptop, the screen is black but it displays images, the backlight doesn't turn on, I have replaced the ribbon cable and inverter but nothing, I tested the backlight with my old X31 and it's ok, what else could be the problem? is there a chance that the motherboard is damaged? thank you for any help.

It sounds like a bad inverter.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

Most likely the problem is the backlight itself, inside the LCD panel assembly. I had the same thing happen to me near the beginning of the year. I ended up buying a used display lid complete on ebay and replacing it myself. I had first tried replacing the inverter, then I tried replacing just the backlight. However I had problems handling the backlight. Replacing the display was my best option. See my thread below, if you are interested.

Forum member jamiphar will likely change out the backlight for you for a fee. See following thread.

Hi, I tested the backlight with my old X31 and it turned on, I think is another issue, I have replace the inverter and the ribbon cable but no success, the lights on both inverters turn on but not to bright you can barely see them except for the WI-FI light, I think there's something preventing the inverter to turn on, any ideas?
