What about a mobo from the more recent models, can it also be muted to fit a flexview 4:3 15" screen?

If the questiion you ask is: "Can a T400 or T500 motherboard fit in a T60 case?" then the reply is already given in the thread
Parts for the ultimate 15” T60 UXGA FlexView w/T61(p) mobo? where:

So - Widescreen models are not compatible? Widescreen T61P's are much more common. Heck, 14 inch T61p's are pretty rare, in 4:3. Even Normal T61's are uncommon in 4:3

Widescreen and non-widescreen T6x units have different motherboards, so the ones from widescreen T61/p would not fit in a 4:3 T60/p casing...

From many points of view, my ultimate machine would not be a T61/p board in a T60/p Flexview case. It would be a maxed out T60/p in a Flexview case.
In fact, the only thing that the T61/p has going for itself, IMO, is the darned 3GB memory limitation of the 945PM chipset. Not a small thing by any means, since there are plenty of scenarios where you might want to have 4GB these days (and possible 8GB in the future).
However, for those who do not need anything over 3GB, I consider the T60 to be a better solution than a T61. The max CPU you can get is only marginally slower (T7600 @2.33/667 vs T7700 @2.4/800). The video cards (Quadro 140M/570M) in the T61/p, while outperform their T60/p counterparts, belong to the dreaded nVidia 8000-series batch, with potentially shortened lifespan. As a platform, the collective experience of me and my colleagues, found Napa to be overall more stable than Santa Rosa.
Just something to consider.

The processor gap is bigger than you think. You could get a 2.6ghz T7800 in a T61p towards the end.

I stand corrected. I forgot about the T7800. It doesn't change my overall opinion, though, but it might be important for some.
