T60p Docked = Both Ethernet Ports Disabled (Adv Mini Dock)

#1 Post by seeplus » Sun Oct 28, 2007 12:27 am

Trying to find out if anyone's had a similar experience:

My T60p 2613-CTO (running a brand-new, clean XP Pro install) thinks both ethernet ports have nothing plugged in when docked. Immediately upon un-docking, the port on the system springs to life.

Both ports have worked reliably for almost a year.. I've had problems in the past with the USB ports on my Advanced Mini Dock not working if the system wasn't docked fully, but that could usually be resolved with a firm push.

I did the new install with the system docked, Software Update has installed drivers, etc.. everything is accounted for and reporting as functional. I have unchecked "allow Win to turn this device off to save power".

Any ideas? I'm assuming the ethernet port in the dock is an extension of the same interface..

Just to confirm....
  • When docked, a cable connected to a known good Ethernet source is not correctly detected as a live Ethernet connection when the cable is plugged into either the Ethernet port on the side of the ThinkPad or the Ethernet port on rear of the dock.

When undocked and using the same cable, the Ethernet port on the side of the ThinkPad does correctly detect a live Ethernet connection.
Is that correct?

Exactly. I've tried a number of known-good cables, too. In addition, the USB ports on the Adv Mini Dock work as usual (ie- it seems like the system has a firm connection to the dock.)

I haven't yet had time to do any more in-depth testing.

Thanks for the reply, Bill.
