What should I do when I get my ThinkPad. Most computers don't come with Restore CDs anymore like the good old days.

1. What should I do to make a copy of my OS in case I want to reformat? I have Vista Ultimate and I have no DVD burner.

2. Any folders which should be backed up to a separate drive? With my hp it was prudent the swsetup folder be backed up as it contained all the drivers and software which you bought, like Finger Print Utlity, Roxio Disk Maker, Office, etc.

3. How to back up Vista activation on ThinkPad?

4. I Doubt it, but does Lenovo still send CDs because there was no option to order a recovery CD with Lenovo.

5. Clean install necessary on a Lenovo ThinkPad product or are they light on the junkware? Any other tips?

thanks

Not a definitive answer as I am not a know it all about thinkpads, but this is what i DO know:

1. Burn recovery DVDs using thinkvantage Software. I think it is going to be a ton of CDs, you might benefit from buying a DVD burner or spare hard drive.

2. I think swtools folder.

3. not sure..

4. no.

5. In my experience, my T61 runs great with vista and all its included thinkvantage bloat ware. Haven't removed any of it, haven't done a clean install, havn't had any problems either.

Besides that look around and search, you will probably find better answers to your questions.
