Battery charges even though set to charge when below 50%

#1 Post by mazman » Tue Oct 30, 2007 12:54 pm

Does anyone know why my T60 battery charges even though set to charge when below 50% in Power manager ?

When I hover over battery icon at bottom of screen it displays

Charging (99%); 19 minutes to fully charge
Charging will start when below 50% and stop at 90%.

Thanks. :?

Just a thought. After you run you laptop on battery power, do you plug it in when it is on, or it is in Sleep/hibernate/off mode?

I almost never completely turn off my t60p, instead I use sleep mode. It gives me its instantaneous wake up when I open the lid. But I've noticed that if I plug my laptop in AC outlet before opening the lid and having system running, laptop will start charging disregarding what you specify in power manager (laptop BIOS is controlling laptop charging when it is in sleep mode AFAIK). So I've got used to opening lid, waiting for welcome/login screen and then plugging laptop into AC outlet (power manager controls laptop charging when system is loaded).

Boris I think you are correct but I would have thought the battery thresholds would be observed once Windows was running, if not how do I get my laptop to charge according to the thresholds ?
At the moment, although I`m not sure why, the battery isnt being charged although the laptop is plugged in to the mains. Is it because ive rebooted while connected to mains ? Power manager doesnt say a reboot is required for the settings to take effect.
Just trying to understand this !

It would appear that I have to shutdown (not restart) then boot with the mains left plugged in and the battery wont charge.
Subsequent hibernations while left plugged in wont cause the battery to charge either.
If I am going to take my laptop anywhere or disconnect from the mains I need to shutdown and not hibernate and then connect to the mains (doesn't charge if connected to the mains before booting or after Windows has started).
