Want to upgrade screen, SAME SIZE, on SAME MODEL, revisited

#1 Post by Crunch » Tue Oct 30, 2007 3:15 pm

Hi all,

Alright, I have a T60p with a 15" SXGA+ LCD. I simply want to upgrade it to a 15" UXGA LCD. A friend of mine said that since I was replacing the SAME size screen, on the SAME type and model #'s, and since my video card fully supports UXGA, it should be a "piece of cake".

I don't like the T61/p's. No more IPS Flexview's. And T60p's with UXGA are virtually impossible to find. Because I freelance for IBM, I get extras like that for free, so there is no cost issue either.

Everything points to: Let the Crunch have his freaking screen, so he'll shut up.

What say you, fellow Thinkpad enthusiasts? I so love this machine. The cabling and all of that should be the same, no? I am definitely comparing apples to apples, am I not?

I beg of thee to tell me good news! 8)

with all due respect, we've already told you this was possible.   it's a 1:1 swap -- just get yourself a UXGA panel.   if you truly freelance for IBM then you should know who to ask at Big Blue to confirm that this will work, or, at a minimum, the correct HMM to confirm parts for yourself.

besides, why start a new thread about an old topic that has already been covered in your original thread and within the T60/p display sticky at the top of the forum?

Hey erik,

My apologies. Yes, I know I had asked about it before. It's just that today I asked an IT friend of mine, and he blurted out, well, if it's the same screen, of course you can do it. So I got all excited.

Alright, I'll go ahead and have them ship me one then. My role has been to sell for them and I've been doing it for eight years, so I get a few perks.

Any more advice? I'll have IBM send you whatever CRU part you want for free (only need system type and model #) if anyone can fill in whatever blanks I am not thinking of myself right now.

For some reason I'm obsessed with getting that [censored] screen. GGRRR...

all you need is FRU 13N7076.   your existing lid, bezel, hinges, inverter card, and LCD cable are exactly the same as what's on the UXGA model.   the only parts you might need besides the display are new screw caps for the bezel.   i believe they're all contained in FRU 41W4504.

once you get the panel then follow the T60/p HMM for full R&R instructions.

that's it.   it's extremely straightforward. :)
