You would need to switch HDD settings from SATA to Compatibility mode in the BIOS.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

If you are installing a non-Lenovo retail or OEM XP image, you need to download the SATA disk driver from the T61 support page at Lenovo and put it on a USB memory drive stick. Then during the XP install hit the F6 key (I think) when prompted early-on for additional device drivers.

Later on in the XP installation you will be prompted for the location of the additional device device drivers. Once loaded the SATA disk driver will allow access to the SATA Drive for the rest of the installation process.

Vista has SATA disk drivers as standard in it installation image.

Bill,
Will an xp install see a USB memory drive stick from F6? Thought xp was limited to floppy.
Vista on the other hand... :)
