T61p Memory Module from 2GB to 3GB

I read several of the memory threads, but I hope someone can enlighten me how go to 3GB on my T61p - running Vista Ultimate 32bit.
I purchased the T61p from Lenovo with 2GB. It has two 1GB modules installed. I want to go to 3GB by replacing one of the 1GB modules with a 2GB.
Crucial has a 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 for $99; and a DDR2 PC2-6400 for $185. Obviously the 6400 module is faster.
Will the PC2-5300 module do? I have no idea what modules Lenovo installed.
Also - Newegg has a Trascend 6400 module for $65.00 as well as other brands.
If I was to replace just one of the 1GB modules originally shipped by Lenovo, what is the best 2GB match/value alternative?
