T61: Keyboard Customizer Utility 1.3.53.0 fails to start

Here's a tough one guys ...... Has anyone suddenly seen this error message start popping up when trying to start the Keyboard Customizer Utility on their T60 or T61 laptops?
"Keyboard Customizer Utility is already being used by another user. Please logoff all users and try again"
I'm the only user on my T61 (WinXP Pro) so I'm confused.
ThinkPad's System Update bumped it up to version 1.3.53.0 and it has never worked since then.
I'm using the external Lenovo USB Enhanced KB and have tried uninstalling the utility and then reisinstalling the KB Customizer Utility several times (both with and without the external KB plugged in).
I've also tried logging off as "myself" (having full administrator rights) and relogging on using "administrator" as the ID and uninstalling the utility. Then relogged on as "myself" to reinstall the utility (both through System Update and also manually from a separate download). Still getting the same message when trying to startup the utility.
Searches of this board and other search engines have yielded no specific help as this evening.
I'm hoping to avoid having to call Lenovo unless absolutely necessary (even though I have a 4 year 9-5 Onsite repair warranty and the 4 year damage protection plan).
Hoping it might be something easy .... anyone?
