Catch 22

Hello everybody. I've got a two week old T61 that I'm still working to get setup and backed up.
A message popped up saying to update the ThinkVantage stuff. I have been doing so all morning, quite a pain. Suggestion: Download and defer the install, then go back and install them.

Now I am trying to install the Rescue and Recovery update. The install runs for a while, then opens an Install Shield window. When I run the Install Shield it says that the ThinkVantage System Update application needs to be closed. I can't close the ThinkVantage System Update window; I press Cancel and it just sits there until I cancel the Install Shield window. I'm stuck in an endless loop.
There is an Ignore button but I am afraid of the consequences. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Well, I bit the bullet and just started applying the patches individually, clicking ignore when it came up and saving the RnR upgrade for last. It seems to have patched everything ok. There is one patch that just won't apply though, the WinDVD Creator, but I don't care so much. Maybe the next patch will work.
