Ghosting a T61

#1 Post by edje_513 » Tue Nov 06, 2007 11:44 am

Hello Everyone,

This is going to be my first time posting on here. The company I work for is considering to get some T61's for our workforce but the only thing is that I can not get Norton Ghost 2003 to work on them. I put the disk in and I start it up like I would for our T60's and then it will hang after it detects the floppy drive. I have tried different external HDs as well as changing the bios configuration but I cannot get it to get past that part. Any suggestiong will be very helpful and appreciated! :D Let me know if you need any more info on my part.
Thanks,
El

Welcome to the forum El!

Its a long shot but could it be that the Ghost 2003 cannot recognize your hard drive while its in AHCI SATA mode? How about if you change it to "compatibility" mode in the BIOS and try again? I know vanilla Windows XP install CD as well as Bart PE CD's don't recognize the HDD while its in AHCI mode.

Good luck!

You are probably using an un-updated version of Ghost 2003. The GHOST.EXE file size should be 1,031,428 bytes. If it is 1,024,xxx bytes, then you are using the older/original version, which suffers from the issue you describe.

Another vote for Acronis. I just used acronis 9 (HDD is set to AHCI in bios) to clone my drive and it worked flawlessly ...
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

Thanks for the welcome to the group.

Setting the SATA mode to "compatiblity" mode was the first thing that I did in my troubleshooting and that came up with the same results. It will just hang trying to boot from the disk.

I thought of my bootdisk being old so I installed Ghost 2003 on my machine and did some updates and now my GHOST.EXE file is that size but still no go on it going any farther.

This thing is making me nuts. I really appreciate all of the suggestions tho.

I talked to our sales rep for IBM and they are talking to Norton people to see if there is a work around but so far nothing.

If you have any more suggestions, please let me know and if I find out anything from my sales rep, I will definitely post it on here.

Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks,
El

You say it hangs when booting from the floppy. This is probably pc-dos or ms-dos. Have you tried pressing the f8 key when the floppy is loading which will allow you to step thru each line of config.sys and autoexec.bat and determine which command is causing the hang? I believe you have to press f8 as soon as you see "loading".
