Clock keeps shifting and Time Auto-update does not work

Hi all,
I finally have my new T-61 P... have to say.. I am quite glad with its performance. Ran Half-Life episode 2 on nearly Full resolution.
So performance in programs is pretty good. however... windows .. may sometimes seem a little sluggish.. but only because I have 3Gigs of RAM and I was hoping a significant burst in speed because of it.
any thoughts on tHIS?
Another thing that's bugging me is.. ( THIS IS where I NEED your HELP) My clock keeps jumping a day ahead. I set it to eastern pacific time.. and every time I try to autoupdate the time from the windows server it gives me an error. If i change the time myself.. and then restart the machine.. the time would've jumped ahead.
Now I know it may possibly be the battery in the motherboard.. but could it really?? because this is a spanking new machine and I would imagine they put in new batteries in new machines.
Lastly.. I have one stuck pixel.. you can't see it.. only if i look really hard for it... any remedy for this?
Thanks.. any help on the clock would be greatly appreciated
