On my brand new T61/p I found these entries in the HK\LM\SW\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run registry:

CJIMETIPSYNC
IMJPMIG9.0
PHIMETIPSYNC

A search at Microsoft turns up nothing. A Google gets lots of people asking the same questions and lots of Chinese language links, but no real information. None of my other TPs (A30, A31/p, T41) show these entries.

Does anyone know what these entries mean?

What programs do these keys point to?

You might try browsing to those programs, right-clicking and looking at the file properties. It may give you some clues. You could also open the binaries up in a hex viewer to see more.

Those three are all language surport items as part of Microsoft IME (search for this keyword 'IME') for asian languages( namely Traditional Chinese and Japanese in this case).
They appreal due to the install of Office. IME is a defult option of office.
It is hinted in the chinese sites that you can rosolve any problem related to them by modifying/reinstalling office. you need to use custom install/modify mode and deselect an option under office shared components which is related to IME. Anyway, if you are using only english, you should not need IME at all.

Thank you lorddeseis

Thank you! Because of the multi-lingual nature of my household I installed the big language pack for MS Office 2003 and didn't de-select the Asian languages. Your answer did the trick.
