T61 - Internal Temps - Hardrive Noise

Hello folks,

I just got my new T61 and am loving it, but I have a couple questions. One is related to internal temps and the other is a hard drive noise.

1: The hard drive occasionally makes a "clunk" noise, sounds like the head starting up (or stopping). It will do it more under heavy load. Is this drive headed for impending failure or is this normal?

2: What are safe internal operating temps for the machine. I got the machine with the nvidia 140m card so i could play some games on it. i am not looking for the "WOW" effect when i look at the game. i just wanted to be able to play with "medium" graphic setting. My processors seem to run about 47C to 53C. However i am more concerned with the video card, it runs as high as 65C when I have played a game. What is to high?

Thanks,
Bob

The GPU will handle nearly 100C before dying.

However, on mine, the GPU hovered around 70C when under the most heavy load I could put it under, which was playing Bioshock.

It should take care of itself and throttle back when the heat gets too high. I wouldn't worry about it.

your temperature ranges are normal.
