Wireless problems: T61

#1 Post by BunchL » Thu Nov 08, 2007 6:51 pm

Brand new (1 week ) T61 6459CTO: wide screen Nvidio Quadro NVS 140M, 1GB mem, HD 120GB 5400 rpm, wireless Intel Pro 3945, 9-cell battery. WGR 614 wireless router, under Hughesnet Sat Modem. Two desktops on the network also.

After slow shutdowns running the Access Connections utilities (which I like on my T40), I uninstalled them. The shutdowns are good now.

But, running with Win controlling the radio, we have this problem:

After standby or shutdown, even for a minute or so, the radio usually comes up reporting "connected" and "signal: Excellent." But, the network is NOT up: can't ping anything, local or outside.

However, if I click up the Network Box, all the TCP addresses are correct, and it says "Connected & Excellent." I pick "Support," "Repair," and it will go through the process which does fix this.

Brand new machine. T40 does not have this problem (running Access Connections.)

Help, please.

I just read in a previous post that uninstalling Thinkvantage Access Connections will solve the problem. Let windows handle the connections. Which is fine by me. This solved my problem. I have XP SP2 on my T61.

I had the exact same problem on my T60 and noticed that I was also not able to use the Fn + F5 combo to controll the wireless state. I updated all the power mgmt and wifi drivers and magically it works flawlessly now (i've never used access connections so that was never the issue for me.)

try reinstalling all the power mgmt and wifi drivers, and then try adjusting some of the settings on the adapter itself. go to devide manager and change the power settings on the advanced tab of the wifi adapter.

No Longer a Problem

For the last 2 or 3 days, the system has awakened from standby or power off and successfully connected to the wireless network. It seems to have "learned" what to do with no interaction from me. I did check settings, etc, but did not reinstall any drivers or make any changes. Windows is still running the radio, and it is working fine. Go figure.
