Optical drive sound

Hey guys. A few days ago I noticed that during start up process my optical drive makes an unusual sound. Believe it or not it sounds more like a floppy drive.
Also I am pretty sure the was no such a sound before. It works fine tho, reads cds and dvds (have not tried to burn anything yet). Could there be something wrong with it?

Have you tried reseating it?

ryengineer, thank you for your reply.
Yes, I tried to restart it, same thing, the sound is still there

Do one of the following:
1. Go to BIOS, Config > Power > CD-rom speed > Set it to "Silent".
2. Open Thinkvantage Power Manager, Global Power Settings > Advanced, set CD-ROM speed to "Silent".
If you change the above settings either at one place, they'll reflect to the other.
Try burning a media and running PC-Doctor test too, if the noise persists and continues bothering you then call IBM Support Center at 1-800-426-7378 (24/7)! and request a replacement as long as your machine is still under warranty.

ryengineer, thank you for you post. I tried everything you advised with no luck
the sound is still there. I think I'll request a replacement.
