it is possible, of course..
One way, if you have, Hitachi/LG DVD-RW such as GSA-4083N, you can download RPC-1 (region free) firmware from here:
http://tdb.rpc1.org/
However, if you have Panasonic/Matshita such as UJ-842 drive or any other drive, your best bet would be to use software-based solution, such as AnyDVD:

Good luck!

Well now you have got me wondering. I just loaded the software and the disk played where as before I got a pop up saying 'This will change your region, proceed?'.
I am not sure if it did swap the region on the drive and just did not show me the popup.
How can I check?

AnyDVD doesn't change your region, dont' worry. It basically creates a "region-free" software layer and that' why you don't get a popup. So hardware-wise, things should remain identical.Entropy1024 wrote:Well now you have got me wondering. To check the region of your DVD drive open Device Manager >> DVD-ROM drive properties and click "Region"
On the side note, I've been using AnyDVD with Matshita drives in the past and never had a problem.
