T60 bluescreens when undocking

#1 Post by shlammed » Mon Nov 12, 2007 11:05 am

Everything works fine, that is, until i undock the laptop.

It just blue screens right away and restarts before I can even see the error message.

Is this a common issue?

1st make the BSOD readable. To do so, follow this:

Right Click My Computer > Properties > Advanced System settings> Under start up recovery-settings> Then uncheck automaically restart and press OK.

Next time you'll be able to read the bluescreen.

Report back the error #.

Also check what the Event Viewer has to say about this error.

(Right click My computer>Manage>System Tools>Event Viewer)

In addition, is there something you installed recently, updated any drivers?

Do you have any additional (other than lenovo factory) memory module installed? Is it factory preload from lenovo or retail version of Windows (Vista or XP)?

If you are using the Advanced Dock, do you have any cards installed in the PCI-Express expansion bay?

You need to give more information. Next time take a cam out and snap a image of it or do what ryengineer reocmmended. Without further info, we can't help you

Just curious, but why do you feel it necessary to undock it while hot?

I alway S/D before undocking because Murphy's Law often applies in my life :)

Dear eecon

Why ever not? It's a laptop - the idea is that you can carry them around. I hot dock and undock my T60 all the time.

I can imagine that the BSOD might be video driver related - certainly my T60 video is exercised by the docking as it has to change resolution between the native screen and my external monitor.

Worth trying to make sure latest (or known good) video drivers are installed.
