Does anyone know if it is possible to perform some raid configuration such as Raid 0 or 1 with T61P with factory disk and Ultrabay hdd ?
Is ultrabay caddy interface limits the throughput if I install a second Hitachi 7K200 200G
On mine (7K200) , hdtune 2.54 indicates about 51 M/s and 14,9 access time, I guess with a RAID configuration and another 7K200, the throughput would be nice

AFAIK RAID is possible on any Thinkpad that supports more than one hard disk drive. However, there's not any drivers outside of Linux that support it (that I've heard of anyway). I've run RAID-0s on my T40, R50p, and T60 with much success on Gentoo and Ubuntu. For the PATA boxes (T40 and R50p) the 2nd drive is on a second IDE channel, so throughput is not limited by the interface (this isn't a factor with the SATA on the T60s). I run two 7K100s and see read rates across the raid in the 70MB/s range. You could probably expect close to 90MB/s if you went for the disks you are talking about.
Quality software RAID (which is faster than hardware RAID unless you buy *really* nice ($$$$+) RAID hardware) is just one of the reasons to run Linux on a Thinkpad.

I just wonder how is it possible that on brand new dell XPS 1730 (or Alienwre 7950) they do some raid configuration on windows since they can and have room to include 2 disks and select raid.
Do you think it is based on ich8 controller or based on any additional card that makes it possible ...
